The scholarship process
STEP 1
Review info and FAQs below
Review criteria to ensure you are eligible. We encourage you to apply for all scholarships for which you meet the criteria.
Collect items needed to complete applications. Prepare essays in advance and identify the people from whom you will request letters of recommendation.
STEP 2
Set-up an account and take the eligibility quiz in the portal
Once you are ready to apply for an online scholarship, start the eligibility quiz.
Online applications typically require a profile setup with an email address. BE SURE TO USE A NON-SCHOOL EMAIL ADDRESS. If you don’t have one, ask your parent or guardian to use theirs. We will use this email address to contact you about your award after graduation.
STEP 3
Apply and submit
Once you have started an application, you can leave it in draft, if needed. However, you must go back in and officially submit the application in order to be considered.
We encourage you to submit your application even if your letters of recommendation have not been submitted by your requestor.
Pay attention to the deadline for submissions.
STEP 4
Wait for awards and then celebrate!
You’ve done the hard work, now you just need to be patient and wait to hear back. There’s no need to follow up with NMF, the scholarship committee, or the sponsor of the scholarship. You will likely get an email of any notices and generally, award letters arrive through the U.S. mail to your home address sometime in June, so be on the lookout.
If you are awarded a scholarship, we’ll help you with the next steps of claiming your scholarship.
