March 10, 2025 (Bemidji, MN) – The Katie Brommenschenkel Vilmo Scholarship, a scholarship fund hosted by Northwest Minnesota Foundation, is seeking qualified applicants to apply for the 2025 scholarship round.
The annual scholarship supports students from school districts in NMF’s service area including Red Lake Nation, White Earth Nation, and 12 counties: Beltrami, Clearwater, Hubbard, Kittson, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, Marshall, Norman, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake, and Roseau, as well as Hillsboro, North Dakota, who are pursuing a post-secondary education through a college, university, trade school, tech school or other nonprofit accredited programs. The scholarship is intended for students who are majoring in agriculture, agriculture education or agri-related business.
The scholarship was established by the friends and family of Katie Brommenschenkel Vilmo to honor her memory and her passion for farm life. Katie enjoyed living a simple life of hard work and gratitude while she and her husband Mike worked simultaneously on their family’s farms. Katie and Mike welcomed their daughter Kennedy as the perfect addition to their farm family in August 2018. One of Katie’s favorite quotes states, “Each person is given the gift of time on this earth to live, to learn, to love, and to leave a legacy.” The family feels this scholarship will honor her legacy for agriculture and life.
Applications for the scholarship are due by April 15. The applications are completed online through the NMF website www.nwmf.org by clicking “Grants & Scholarships” on the homepage.
