In partnership with the McKnight Foundation, the Northwest Minnesota Foundation is now offering rapid response funding through Good Neighbor Grants to help nonprofits meet urgent needs this winter.
These one-time awards of $5,000 are designed to provide immediate assistance for essentials like heating, food, and other basic necessities. Eligible organizations may apply once, and applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until funds are depleted.
Funds can be used for concrete supports that directly help families and individuals in Northwest Minnesota, such as gas and grocery gift cards, programs to combat food insecurity, diapers and formula, and heating assistance.
To apply, visit the Grants page at www.nwmf.org. For questions, contact Chloe at 218-558-5326.
WHY THIS MATTERS
Across Minnesota, families are facing growing economic pressures due to rising costs of food, rent, and energy, challenges that were compounded when SNAP benefits lapsed last month, leaving many unsure how they’ll make ends meet. The McKnight Foundation has committed $1 million statewide to help communities respond quickly to these urgent needs, including support for the six Minnesota Initiative Foundations (including NMF).
“Many of our neighbors are facing real hardships right now,” said Karen White, NMF president. “Together, we’re working to respond quickly and get help where it’s needed most for food and heating. In moments like this, Northwest Minnesota shows what it does best—taking care of one another. We invite everyone to join us in helping our neighbors stay safe, warm, and supported this season.”
You can help by donating to NMF or supporting local nonprofits that provide essential services. Every contribution makes a difference for families in need.
