In 1976 the Small World Early Learning Center became a reality thanks to the partnership between parents and community members of Red Lake Falls.
I have worked at the Northwest Minnesota Foundation for 5 years. Over that time, I have seen and worked with the people, businesses and organizations that benefit from our work across the region.
The Northwest Minnesota Foundation (NMF) is home to over 30 Donor Advised Funds with a wide range of purposes and dedicated causes that they provide financial support for.
Ruth Howe and Merril Thiel were both raised in families that valued giving back. Growing up in farm communities during the Great Depression, Ruth’s mother provided meals to anyone in need, and always made sure she and her siblings had a penny to contribute to the offering on Sundays.
I am currently going into my sophomore year at Bemidji State University, where I am pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

On February 22nd, Sean Dunham reached out to our staff to let us know he was hosting a Facebook Fundraiser on his personal page to raise money in honor of his birthday for the Archaeology and Historic Preservation Fund – a component fund at NMF.
The Communities Thrive Program is a “deep dive” in a small number of communities to help them capitalize on the current “Brain Gain” trend in the ways that best fit their unique community, ultimately building on the strengths and diversity within our region. This program uses place making and planning approaches to support community vitality.
