Two funds in the Northwest Minnesota Foundation family of funds have received significant contributions from Norman County West (NCW) Dollars for Scholars now that the NCW chapter has issued its final scholarship checks.
Norman County West High School closed in 2018; since that time, the NCW Dollars for Scholars chapter continued to fulfill renewable scholarships until its final payments were issued this past August.
In the wake of those final payments, the board decided to allocate its remaining funds to four organizations: the Katie Brommenschenkel Vilmo Scholarship Fund, the Cody Holte Scholarship Fund, the Ada Scholarship Foundation, and the Ada-Borup-West Summer Enrichment Program.
The Katie Brommenschenkel Vilmo Scholarship Fund and the Cody Holte Scholarship Fund are both funds in NMF’s family of funds. Each received $45,000 to further bolster their missions.
Established in 2023, the Katie Brommenschenkel Vilmo Scholarship Fund honors the memory and passion Katie had for farm life. Katie, who died in a tragic farm accident in 2018, enjoyed living a simple life of hard work and gratitude with her husband and daughter. The scholarship supports students in Northwest Minnesota and Hillsboro, North Dakota, who are majoring in agriculture, agriculture education or agri-related business at a college, university, trade school, tech school or other accredited program.
The Cody Holte Scholarship Fund was established in 2021 in memory of Cody, a Grand Forks police officer who tragically died in the line of duty. The fund supports students pursuing a career in law enforcement, criminal justice, ROTC, or a high school student who is currently enlisted and serving with the National Guard or military. Students must be graduates of one of the following school districts: Ada-Borup-West, Bagley, Climax-Shelly, Fisher, Fertile-Beltrami, Fosston, Hillsboro, Kittson Central, Mahnomen, Norman County East, Ulen-Hitterdal, Waubun-Ogema-White Earth, or Win-E-Mac.
