March 3, 2025 (Bemidji, MN) – The Northwest Minnesota Foundation is hosting workshops this spring to equip communities with strategies to bolster their resiliency in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from disasters.
Every year, communities throughout the U.S. face weather disasters, including floods, tornadoes, and wildfires, and other crises such as mass shootings. Yet when a disaster strikes, community members are forced to figure out how to respond, often with little training or preparation. Individuals, nonprofit organizations, faith-based groups, private funders, emergency managers, public health agencies, and other mobilize in response. Coordinating the resources that each of these stakeholders brings to the table is a challenge every time. Is there a better way to prepare for crises?
The workshop encourages attendees to consider the intersection of disaster and philanthropy and the role of funders and community in all phases of disaster.
NMF has been involved with disaster philanthropy for 10 years, working to bring partners together across networks. The intention with these workshops is to bring together an array of community members and local leaders to learn more about resiliency and connect with one another.
Presenting at the workshops will be Cari Cullen, who leads the Center for Disaster Philanthropy’s domestic grantmaking and previously served as director of the CDP Midwest Early Recovery Fund.
