The University of Minnesota Crookston marked Women’s History Month with a display and demonstrations recognizing and honoring women’s contributions to history, culture, and society.
Supporting the project titled With Her Hands: Fiber Arts Celebration, the university sought to celebrate and spread awareness about fiber artistry in the Red Lake River area community. Grant funding from the Northwest Minnesota Women’s Fund helped support the project, which ran from March 3-14 at UMN Crookston.
The art event celebrated fiber arts, including knitting, crocheting, spinning, weaving, dyeing, embroidery, stitching, and textile crafts.
“The gushing comments about the event flowed freely in conversations from my side of the room,” said one artist who took part. “The people that attended were very engaged … and I feel like I talked to 100+ people about fiber.”
